Honored to spend time with Dr Reeta Gurung, Chief Executive Officer of the Nepal Eye Program at Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology and the Fred Hollows- Intraocular Lenses Laboratory based in Kathmandu, Nepal.

Vision makes an important contribution to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and cuts across many of the SDGs; from poverty reduction to economic growth and employment, to education, gender and reducing inequalities.

Dr. Gurung, said that the ‘Fred Hollows Intraocular Lens Laboratories’ that were set up in Eritrea and Nepal in the same period continue to supply high quality and low cost Intraocular Lenses across the globe. Millions of cataract patients have become beneficiaries of IOLs products and had their sights restored with The Fred Hollows IOL Laboratory in Tilganga (Nepal) and Asmara (Eritrea).

We discussed how Bairex Institute Of Health Education and Research can partner with various stakeholders to help advance quality eye care and achieve the SDGs through the provision of comprehensive and innovative South-South collaboration.
