Latest on COVID-19

Viral Load of SARS-CoV-2 in Respiratory Aerosols Emitted by COVID-19 Patients while Breathing, Talking, and Singing | Clinical Infectious Diseases | Oxford Academic

Timely peer-reviewed research just published in Clinical Infectious Diseases.

No matter how you slice it, COVID-19 is an airborne disease and we must put appropriate preventive measures in place.

More evidence COVID is being spread primarily through aerosols…….underscoring the importance of upgrading your mask to something with high filter quality and something that fits tightly to your face.

What can you do?

1) Wear an N95 or KN95 mask, or wear a 3 layer surgical mask with a cloth mask over it. COVID-19 is airborne. Cloth masks alone aren’t going to cut it with Delta Variant indoors.

2) Get Vaccinated AND MaskUp or you’re likely to end up infected.

One more reason to get vaccinated?

Getting vaccinated isn't just about you. It's also about protecting people around you. When you get vaccinated, you're much less likely to spread the infection to an older person or someone with a kidney transplant, for example, who may die from it.

Are Covid vaccines doing what they were supposed to do?

Yes! Vaccines were designed to prevent hospitalization and death and they’re doing that very well.

How come they are not
preventing infections?

Primary goal of the Covid vaccines were/are to prevent hospitalization and death. In addition, now data shows that they are protecting us against infections as well. In fact, available data shows more than 90 percent of people being hospitalized with Covid were unvaccinated.

Do we need “extra shot”?

At the moment, the only people who seems to need extra shots are those who are immunocompromised.

What if you don’t have access to vaccines?

Many countries still don’t have access to lifesaving vaccines. We cannot get out of this pandemic unless the entire world gets out of it.

Is it safe to travel?

It is best for unvaccinated people, including children, to avoid flying.

For vaccinated people, most experts advice to use a high-quality medical mask, like N95 or KF94, when you fly.

What if I don’t have access to N95 or KF94?

If you don’t have one, double masking is advised.

Can I remove my mask to eat or drink during the flight?

Yes, you can but it is better to keep it on as much as possible.

What if the person next to me didn’t seem to care about Covid precautions or wore the mask under the nose?

This happen to us while flying last week from Italy to Morocco. Even though we knew that everybody on the plane had to have a Negative Covid test, we decided to keep the mask on.

Airplanes are typically well ventilated and not a major source of outbreaks. The potential for exposure to an infected person maybe even higher in the terminal, sitting in airport restaurants/bars, or going through the security line.
