Yes! Vaccines were designed to prevent hospitalization and death and they’re doing that very well.
How come they are not
preventing infections?
Primary goal of the Covid vaccines were/are to prevent hospitalization and death. In addition, now data shows that they are protecting us against infections as well. In fact, available data shows more than 90 percent of people being hospitalized with Covid were unvaccinated.
Do we need “extra shot”?
At the moment, the only people who seems to need extra shots are those who are immunocompromised.
What if you don’t have access to vaccines?
Many countries still don’t have access to lifesaving vaccines. We cannot get out of this pandemic unless the entire world gets out of it.
Is it safe to travel?
It is best for unvaccinated people, including children, to avoid flying.
For vaccinated people, most experts advice to use a high-quality medical mask, like N95 or KF94, when you fly.
What if I don’t have access to N95 or KF94?
If you don’t have one, double masking is advised.
Can I remove my mask to eat or drink during the flight?
Yes, you can but it is better to keep it on as much as possible.
What if the person next to me didn’t seem to care about Covid precautions or wore the mask under the nose?
This happen to us while flying last week from Italy to Morocco. Even though we knew that everybody on the plane had to have a Negative Covid test, we decided to keep the mask on.
Airplanes are typically well ventilated and not a major source of outbreaks. The potential for exposure to an infected person maybe even higher in the terminal, sitting in airport restaurants/bars, or going through the security line.
