Strengthening an inclusive and sustainable Ecosystem for Boosting Intra-African Trade

Kigali, March 2827/2023

This past Monday, I had the honor of speaking to Mulalem Seyoum, CEO and co-founder
of the African Electronic Trade Group and Chief Operating Officer Ms. Treasure Maphanga (former Director of Trade and Industry, African Union Commission)

We discussed various strategic areas of collaboration for job creation and sustainable development.

The A-eTrade Group initiated by Africans engaged in various fields 14 years ago, is a multi-stakeholder group of African professionals and business people with a vision to develop and implement an e-empowerment program that will enhance intra-and inter-African trade.

Mulalem and Treasure said that the institution headquartered in Kigali, Rwanda, is working to improve Africa’s role in the digital economy. Initial areas of focus are in infrastructure, human resource capacity building, R&D,, digital market and many other sectors.

Mulualem will soon be visiting the US and is looking forward in strengthening collaboration with the super talented African diaspora. No doubt that the various collaborations will enhance the group’s efforts to digitalize trade in Africa at a larger scale by encouraging impact investment in Small and Medium-Scale Enterprises (SMEs) to create more jobs for the growing youth population and generate wealth across the continent.
