Greetings from Bisidimo, where I’m this week working with the exceptional Himalayan Cataract Project Team. (https://www.cureblindness.org). Medical prescreening is a critical part of the HCP process. While the 100 years old lady with bilateral cataract (photo) was incredibly healthy, the 60 years old lady in the photo was newly diagnosed with Hypertension (Diastolic of >118) and required immediate medical intervention. She is now under the care of the Bisidimo Hospital (formerly the Leprosy Relief Center Bisidimo, or LRCB) team. Day one went well. We are working of course under strict C-19 protocol …..so far so good. 50 percent of all avoidable blindness is caused by cataracts. It is always inspiring to see how HCP is working to improve eye care on all levels, HCP is involved from the ground up, helping with training the local nursing staff to the physicians. This effort was evident in Harar as the Ethiopian team at Bisidimo Hospital is exceptional. Thanks for your ongoing support to this important cause
